The next two tries turned out to be successful. The reason a classic carbon fibre look didn't come out is because firstly, I didn't put in a clear coat ahead of time, and secondly, laying down the fabric myself was not easy, so there is some distortion. Each cover was 5lbs, though, intensely strong.

After all the carbon fibre composite was done curing, it was time to break out the fibre cutting disc and marker. Using the existing aluminium frame pieces it was just trace, cut, and drill.

The bracketing for mounting the covers to the interior frame was thought about endlessly. I went with a design that was strong, small, lightweight, and fairly simple.
